The cover centers around the theme of music, with my desire to connect it to Taiwanese local culture. During the early stages of concept development, I was drawn to Taiwanese composer 江文也, who is introduced in the textbook. I later came across his creative reflections on the 1934 piece "White Egret – A Fantasy", where he, though born in Tokyo, expressed deep admiration for the clear and transparent landscapes of Taiwan—lush rice fields, dancing egrets, swaying acacia trees, and gentle water buffaloes—scenery that evoked a strong sense of home.
In the illustration, I transformed white egrets into musical notes on a staff, hoping to convey the idea that “music, like egrets, soars freely and leads us to distant places.”
The composition brings together a young Mozart playing the violin and a character from the textbook performing Beiguan(北管) music, creating a scene of East-West musical collaboration and creativity.
